In the liner notes, Earlimart declare that “Treble & Tremble is dedicated to our friend Elliott Smith” whose death probably coincided with the writing of this album. As a result, his influence is all over this record, and there are some moments of touching poignancy.

The Earlies worked on the songs for this album by swapping files over the internet and sending tapes through the post. Astonishingly, they apparently didn’t all meet until after the album was released, so the fact that this record exists – and is so good – is quite remarkable.
