I bought this late last year after hearing loads of good things about it, both from friends and online reviews. I’ve never been massively into R&B or soul, but I thought this might be one of those albums that appeals to everyone, regardless of the genre they normally listen to.
I wish I’d discovered Cable when I was going through my Idlewild/Symposium/emo phase in sixth form, because I know that they would probably have become one of my favourite bands and this one of my favourite albums.
I’ve never been completely sure about Badly Drawn Boy. I quite liked the singles I heard off the debut album, but it was never really top of my to-buy list.
I’m not sure when or why I got this one. But I did get it and, as will probably be the case for lots of the albums I’m listening to as part of this project, I can’t remember listening much to it since.
I was given this album for Christmas, and the first couple of times I listened to it I quite enjoyed it. But then I put it back on the shelf and didn’t pay any attention to it again until now. And, hearing it with fresher ears, I’ve realised why: it all sounds the same.
